The Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards 2009

Wish you had been there!  Having been invited to this event for the first time I thoroughly enjoyed it.  We were all there to celebrate the best of tourism in the region – yet how many of us in the business sector knew about these awards?  Well here we go, raise a glass to those who have won and lets show our appreciation by visiting some of the establishments that some of us may not have heard of and lets continue to support those that we have.

Local Successes

Opus Restaurant – winner of Taste of the Heart sponsored by Gastro Card, in addition Staying Cool at the Rotunda, The Birmingham Hippodrome, ICC, NEC, the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham Convention Bureau.  Brockencote Hall Hotel won too and this is a new addition on the Gastro Card.   Hidelow Cottages scooped two awards.

Outstanding contribution to Tourism went to Drayton Manor and the individual award to Ian Walden who retired from Black Country Living museum earlier this year after 34 years. He built the museum from scratch to an attraction that sees 260,000 visitors per year.
