Charlotte’s cycle challenge is an African adventure

A Worcester property expert who hadn’t ridden a bike for years has saddled herself with a mammoth African adventure – cycling 400 kilometres across Kenya.

Charlotte Fullard, of Halls Commercial, is working on boosting her pedal power as she trains on the roads and hills around Worcestershire in preparation for the Women v Cancer event in October. She recently cycled 120 miles to Swansea as she stepped up her training schedule.

The senior surveyor agreed to take on the monumental challenge of cycling across 400km of the Kenyan landscape to raise funds for victims of breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.

Hundreds of women from across the UK will take part in the event organised by Action for Charity. The five-day cycling event begins on October 29. Charlotte will push herself to the limit as she cycles along the slopes of Mount Kenya and the shores of Lake Victoria.

Accompanying Charlotte will be hundreds of women including celebrities such as Kim Woodburn’s sidekick Aggie MacKenzie of ‘How Clean is your House’ fame. Also taking part in one of the rides will be Dawn Porter, the writer and television presenter renowned for tackling issues from size zero and childbirth, and the realities of struggling with breast cancer in the hard hitting documentary ‘My Breasts Could Kill Me’.

Charlotte, who lives and works in Worcester, said: “I’ve decided it’s the right time in my life for a bit of adventure and what better way to do it then raising money for worthy causes. I have to admit it was a spur of the moment decision to take part in the ride, and as I hadn’t cycled since I was a child the training has come as a bit of a shock to the system. I am sure it will be a fantastic experience though and it’s a great cause to support.

“For me, it’s a great way of getting fit and it is offering me a complete change of lifestyle. I haven’t done anything like this before but it is one of those things that will give me a huge sense of achievement and, hopefully, not too much agony.”

Charlotte, who is getting support from friends and colleagues at Halls Commercial, has already raised £4,345. All proceeds will be split equally between Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and Ovarian Cancer Action.
