Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for many people across the country, this year more than ever they need your support.
There are a range of charities you can support across Birmingham who are doing amazing work to offer support to those in need. Here are a few charities we support and you can also help out.
Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid
Providing front line domestic violence and abuse support services to women and children in the Birmingham and Solihull area, Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid (BSWA) works tirelessly towards a future for all women in which inequality, violence and abuse are no longer tolerated. Demand for their services is increasing, and with your generous support BSWA will be able to reach more women and children who need help.
Here are a few ways you can help BSWA this Christmas:
Take part in their Christmas jumper selfie competition
Get your best (see also: tackiest) Christmas jumper out from the depths of your wardrobe and say cheese. Upload your selfie to BSWA’s GivePenny page here and make a donation while you’re there – it couldn’t be easier. The best entry will also receive a prize too!
Purchase an item from BSWA’s Amazon list
Take a look through BSWA’s Amazon wish list and purchase your selected items, which will then be delivered directly to the charity’s central office. These gifts will be distributed to women and children. You can also raise money for BSWA while you shop too. Simply visit Amazon Smile and search for Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid and shop as normal – there is no additional cost to you.
Make a donation directly to BSWA
You can also make a donation via Just Giving. A cash donation is perfect to help BSWA with those last minute shopping trips for gifts.
Smart Works Birmingham
Since opening in August 2016, Smart Works Birmingham has offered support to unemployed women across the region through their dressing and interview coaching service by providing their clients with a complete outfit of clothes and accessories (which are theirs to keep afterwards) and one-to-one preparation training to help them feel more confident and believe in their own abilities.
Smart Works’ services are going to be needed more than ever in the New Year. Whether it’s a one-off or regular contribution, donating to Smart Works can help to make a real difference to the lives of women across Birmingham. Click here to donate to Smart Works.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
You may or may not know that Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a charity and receives no funding from external sources, and relies purely on membership and admission fees to run the picturesque Gardens.
A peaceful getaway in the heart of Edgbaston, the Gardens offers 15 acres of green open space with lots to see across the multiple different areas in the Gardens. Plan a visit to the Gardens over the festive period and take some time out to enjoy the green space
Birmingham Botanical Gardens is open all year round, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day from 10am. Tickets to visit the Gardens can be booked via their website.
The Gardens also offer corporate membership for either 5 or 10 tickets, which means up to 5/10 of your team can visit the Gardens for some time away from work.
