Fitness fanatics at the Barques office have been limbering up in preparation for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run. Our sportiest team members will be putting their talents to good use to raise money for local charity, BCAT (Birmingham Centre for Arts Therapies).
The team of six includes Katie French who takes part in the half marathon every year and also cycles in her spare time and Emma Cosgrove who plays hockey alongside her pretend gruelling running training. Emma and Katie ran together in June for Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK. They are the team motivators. Gym enthusiasts, Nathan Powis and Jonny Janssens will be joining them with Mat Jones is the ‘fit one’ to watch and James Roberts who runs and cycles reluctantly.
The fit-ish bunch will be raising money for BCAT, a charity that provides accessible art therapies throughout the Midlands. The centre brings together arts, drama, music and dance movement therapy to schools, prisons, hospitals, homes for the elderly and day centres for those with physical and sensory disabilities. All of the money raised will help BCAT continue its excellent services.
The half marathon will see the Barques runners complete the 13.1 mile course that takes in some of Birmingham’s most iconic sights including the Cadbury factory, Edgbaston Cricket Ground and Cannon Hill Park.
We’re no stranger to the odd slice of cake in the office, so to make sure all six runners are training hard, they’ll be using social network and fitness app, Strava to keep on track. The app works by tracking bike rides and runs through the GPS function on your phone and once completed will let users analyse the quality of their performance. All participating members are a part of a ‘Barques Running Club’ group on the site so they can monitor each other’s progress and training.
Jilly Cosgrove, our managing director said: “I’m so proud of Team Barques and can’t wait to cheer them on in October. It’s always great to get involved with local sporting events, particularly when it’s for such a great cause like BCAT. As Barques is a creative company, we’re so pleased to be supporting a creative charity.”
The half marathon will kick start on Sunday 19th October at Paradise Circus with the rest of the Barques team cheering them on. To support Team Barques, visit their Virgin Giving page and make your donation.
