On the 15th June #CupcakeDay has encouraged thousands to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society by buying and eating cakes up and down the country to get the awareness out there. Last year £330,000 was raised, this was enough to fund 11 PHD researchers for a year allowing them take on life-saving work. This year we’ve taken part in the festivities and had our very own Barques bake off.
Cupcake day is to raise money for those with Alzheimer’s, it is a disease which is most commonly caused by dementia. The disease symptoms include a mixture of memory loss, problem solving difficulties with thinking or even language. It can cause a lot of problems such as distress for people that may suffer with this disease as well as their families. It is the leading cause of death in the UK currently and we’re determined to make a difference. There are many ways to reduce the risk of dementia, including:
Do Not Smoke
Keeping Physically active
Eat Healthy and have a Balanced Diet
Alcohol is consumed at the recommended amount
This is not our first bake off. We at Barques are partial to a bit of friendly baking competition. In September, we raised over £130 for the MacMillan World Coffee Morning, and this week, Jilly has again taken on the role of cupcake judge along with Mark and Scott. They decided their favourite baker was Suzie Matthews!
Why not sweeten your day and donate to the cause?
A world without Dementia!
