On Friday 10th July some of the Barques crew participated in the Property for Kids (PFK) Tug of War event at Harbourne Cricket Club. Unlike some teams, who received a fine, we entered into the spirit and our fancy dress was nautical themed; A nice nod to our company name Barques that is also a three mast ship. We donned our finest pirate gear and headed to the cricket club with our pirate themed gazebo.
We pitched up and headed straight to the bar to calm our nerves. Luckily we weren’t the first ones to be called to take part so we watched with anticipation whilst the first four teams battled it out on the rope. The first battle was over and done with within a matter of what seemed like seconds, then it was our turn. The nerves had really kicked in now but we were ready. We set up as instructed and went in for the pull, we pulled hard with all our might and WE WON! Confident and with adrenalin kicking in we set up for our second pull – WE WON AGAIN! Shocked we headed back to our gazebo to review our performance and fuel our engine with food.
Was the food our downfall? or was it that we were facing some hefty opposition – sadly our winning streak passed. However, we all had a great time raising money for charity, in the sunshine with some great people.
We will definitely be tooling up for next year.
The event raised a total of £2,700 for PFK.
